The weekend prior to Thanksgiving was the perfect time to workshop some of our favorite family dishes. My dad and I prepared a quiet sunday dinner together: stir fried eggs and green beans, an aromatic dish of leafy greens, and a lotus root and fish patty that accompanies rice perfectly. As delicious as the meal was, spending an evening with my dad in the kitchen was even better.

after peeling and washing, cut the lotus root in half for an even surface while slicing it is important to stay wary of the sharp blade while working on a clean cutting board. slice the lotus root lengthwise a few centimeters wide. the slices do not need to be too think since they will be later combined with the fish paste to form a patty.
